Who It's For

Two Situations, Same Solution

Our clients fall into two camps. Red9 works for both.

You Have a DBA Team

Your DBAs Are Stretched Thin

Your team handles a lot, but 24/7 coverage is hard with a small staff. After-hours alerts burn people out. SQL Server-specific tuning competes with other priorities. Red9 takes the overnight shift, handles the monitoring noise, and gives your DBAs expert backup when they need a second opinion or extra hands.

  • 24/7 monitoring so your team sleeps
  • After-hours alert response (15-min SLA)
  • Overflow support for big projects
  • SQL Server depth your generalists may lack
You Don't Have a DBA

Your IT Team Wears Too Many Hats

SQL Server is running, but nobody on your team specializes in it. The sysadmin handles it when something breaks, but proactive tuning and monitoring aren't happening. Red9 acts as your dedicated SQL Server team for a fraction of a full-time hire.

  • Full SQL Server management, end to end
  • Proactive monitoring and tuning
  • Someone to call when things go wrong
  • Monthly reports so you know what's happening
Day-to-Day

What Your Remote DBA Actually Does

This isn't a dashboard you log into. It's a real person (with a team behind them) handling your SQL Server work alongside your existing staff.

24/7 Monitoring

Our tools watch CPU, memory, disk, jobs, backups, availability groups, and error logs around the clock. Common issues get auto-fixed before they page anyone.

Alert Response

When something needs a human, your DBA gets it. Not a NOC tech reading a runbook. A senior engineer who already knows your environment.

Query & Performance Optimization

Slow queries, bad execution plans, missing indexes, blocking chains. Your DBA finds them and fixes them on an ongoing basis, not just when you complain.

Security and Compliance

Login auditing, permission reviews, encryption settings, vulnerability patching. Your DBA keeps your SQL Server locked down to match your compliance needs.

Service Requests

Need a new database created? User permissions changed? A backup restored to a test environment? Submit a request and your DBA handles it, usually the same day.

Monthly Reporting

You get a written report every month covering what happened, what was fixed, how your servers are performing, and what to keep an eye on. No surprises.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "remote DBA" actually mean?

It means a senior database administrator works on your SQL Servers remotely, over a secure VPN or RDP connection. They monitor your environment, fix problems, handle requests, and tune performance. You communicate through your existing channels (email, Teams, Slack, phone) and they respond based on your plan's SLA.

We already have DBAs. How does Red9 fit in?

We work alongside your team, not instead of them. Most of our clients with internal DBAs use us for 24/7 monitoring coverage, after-hours alert response, and specialized SQL Server tuning. Your DBAs keep full access and control. We handle the overnight shift and the overflow work so your team can focus on higher-priority projects without burning out on on-call rotations.

How is remote DBA different from managed services?

They're the same thing. "Remote DBA" is how most people search for this type of service, and managed services is what we call our plans. When you sign up for a Monitor, Essentials, or Professional plan, you're getting a remote DBA. The work is identical.

How do you access my servers securely?

We connect through a secure VPN tunnel or your existing remote access solution. We use two-factor authentication, and all access is logged and auditable. We work within your existing security policies and can accommodate specific compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI, etc.).

Will my internal team still have full access and control?

Yes. Your team keeps full access to everything. We use a dedicated service account and coordinate with your staff on changes. We're an extension of your team, not a replacement. If your DBA wants to review what we did, every action is documented.

Do you support Azure SQL and AWS RDS?

Yes. We support SQL Server on Azure VMs, Azure SQL Managed Instance, AWS EC2, and AWS RDS. We also support hybrid environments where some servers are on-prem and others are in the cloud.

What's the contract length?

All plans are annual agreements. This lets us invest in learning your environment and building proper monitoring and automation for your setup. The onboarding work takes time to get right, and our clients get the most value over months, not weeks.

What happens outside business hours?

Monitoring runs 24/7/365 on every plan. On Essentials and Professional, your DBA responds to high-priority alerts within 15 minutes at any hour, including weekends and holidays. On Monitor, the system auto-fixes common issues and alerts you. After-hours DBA response is available as an add-on for the Monitor plan.
